The project proposes a scheme of housing units that can be completed by the inhabitants themselves through the income generated by productive spaces such as commercial spaces on the first floors, communal agriculture inside the blocks and multi-scale connectivity strategies that allow an integration of this population with the social and economical dynamics of the city of Cartagena.
The place
The intervention takes place in the El Pozón neighborhood, on the northeastern outskirts of the coastal city of Cartagena de Indias. El Pozón is a neighborhood of informal origin surrounded by important ecosystems such as the Ciénaga la Virgen, which has been consumed by the need for land to build new homes for the growing population.
Due to the informality in its appearance and the proximity to water bodies, El Pozón presents floods at certain times of the year and with climate change it is expected to get worse and worse. In addition, its distance from the city center makes it a populated area that lacks public social investment and opportunities for the well-being of its inhabitants.
urban planning
Group
A perimeter vehicular road is maintained around the urban area, in order to guarantee vehicle access in case of emergencies and for basic services.
Main and secondary pedestrian axes are created, with commercial spaces of the houses arranged towards these axes in order to give life to the streets and contribute to safety.
Inside the blocks, the crops were located so that the inhabitants can both feed on them and use them to market them and generate income.
Toward In the areas most prone to flooding, public spaces such as parks, trails, and less relevant services were located in case they were covered by water.

The new houses are mixed with the pre-existing ones and the property limits are maintained so as not to affect the management and ownership of the existing and future land.

The houses were raised 50cm from the ground in case of flooding.
